About the company

PZU Insurance is the Estonian Branch of the Lithuanian insurance company AB Lietuvos draudimas, which is a part of the international PZU Group and uses the PZU trademark in Estonia. PZU is one of the biggest insurance groups in Central and Eastern Europe and is represented in Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in addition to Poland, the country where the Group originally hails from. PZU entered the Estonian market in 2013. In the following year, PZU acquired the assets of the RSA Insurance Group in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, and hence became the market leader in the Baltic States.

The state-owned company PZU SA (Powszechny Zakład Ubezpieczeń Spółka Akcyjna) was founded in 1803 in Poland, becoming the first Polish insurance company. Currently, PZU is the largest insurance company in Poland in terms of turnover, the number of customers, sales network, employees, as well as partners. The services of the Group include life and property insurance, administration of pension assets, investment funds and products related to savings and deposits. The long-term strategy of PZU includes the objective of gradually increasing the proportion of activities of the Group in the banking sector. In spring 2017, state shareholding in PZU amounted to 34.1875%.

PZU has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (Giełda Papierów Wartościowych w Warszawie) since 2010. In August 2020, S&P Global Services issued PZU “A-” rating with a “stable” outlook. According to the agency PZU should deliver results relatively comparable with its main international insurance peers in 2020,despite its goodwill impairment of Polish zloty(PLN) 827 million on its banking investments. Furthermore, the group will likely continue to retain a comfortable capital cushion above the ‘AAA’ requirements of S&P Global Ratings’ capital model.
